"Pink Marble"- Birthday edition

Dear God! how beauty varies in nature and art. In a woman the flesh must be like marble; in a statue the marble must be like flesh - Victor Hugo

Nearly two months ago, my client Sara approached me with a request to do her daughter Dima's, first birthday cake. She wanted to recreate the feel of a previous design of mine but, in pink and gold with a princess crown as the highlight of the cake.

CAKE FLAVOUR- An Ultimate Chocolate cake layered with Malted chocolate filling and frosted in Ganache.

DESIGN INSPIRATION- The growth of a girlchild to me seemed comparable to a marble. The various undertones in the stone reflect her journeys and milestones she has surpassed in becoming the ultimate gem to her creators.

DESIGN DETAILS-I have been thinking for a long time if marbling can happen in buttercream. So I went ahead with a lot of doubts and arrived at the idea of a pink and white marbled buttercream to dress the body of the cake.

Apart from the marbling, the crown certainly deserved a lot of attention, so I created a royal baby princess crown with gumpaste and royal icing followed by painting with edible gold. The "1" number topper has tiny handmade sugar roses to give it a floral touch.I also added them to the marbled gumpaste balloons, which I absolutely loved as a child. The alphabet blocks have been made out of fondant with handpainted edible gold.

Dima, the one-year-old looked nothing short of a princess in the arms of her parents Sara and Amr at the party besides her cake that was created to reflect what she meant to her creators.
